moisturiser ingredients for psoriasis and eczema

As the months are getting colder down here in the southern hemisphere, our skin tends to get drier, flakier and we tend to have more flare ups during these cold dry months. Being a psoriasis sufferer for so long, I know that changes in season can really trigger psoriasis flare ups and that’s why arming ourselves with a moisturiser that heals and ultra-hydrates our skin is a MUST.

I am no medical professional but having to try and test so many different moisturisers made me learn that there are moisturisers that give better results for psoriasis and eczema sufferers. There are moisturisers that seem to be doing nothing at all for our skin, and there are ones that really make a difference as you use them consistently.

The best ingredients in a moisturiser that works great for psoriasis and eczema are those with HEALING AND HYDRATING properties. These are the cornerstones of effective moisturisers for our skin. Moisturisers that contain such ingredients help keep psoriasis and eczema more manageable as it helps heal red, itchy, inflamed skin and keeps dry skin protected and hydrated as it can lock moisture in.

The list below are some of the amazing ingredients in a moisturiser that gives healing and hydrating properties. I’m sure that there are a ton more out there but these are the ones that I have tried and tested, or have read in other articles or blogs that have been tried by other psoriasis and eczema sufferers. The top three on the list are my favourites! I have detailed my favourite products in a previous blog if you’d like to know what products I use for my body moisturiser.

Vitamin E

Cocoa Butter

Kawakawa Oil

Shea butter

Colloidal Oatmeal

Virgin Coconut Oil

Virgin Sunflower Seed Oil

Jojoba Oil

Borage Seed Oil

Lanolin

Hyaluronic Acid

Petrolatum

Rice bran

I truly hope that this list will help you find the moisturiser that can help you protect your skin during this cold season! Finding products that work is a trial and journey experience. And there may be ingredients that work well for others but do not work well on yours. I am still on the journey to find better products for my skin condition and I’d like to share with you the things that I’ll learn along the way. Here’s to better skin!
