Managing Scalp Condition : Scalp Psoriasis

Scalp Condition

Having a scalp condition can be very embarrassing, let alone hard to manage. These conditions can range from having constant dandruff to having serious conditions such as scalp eczema, scalp psoriasis, or seborrheic dermatitis. There is no cure for these conditions at the moment and so finding the right products to help manage it is a must. In this blog, I’ll be sharing with you how I manage my scalp psoriasis.

Use Scalp Serum

I love scalp serums. Not only did it bring moisture and nourishment back into my scalp, it also restored my hair and supported healthy hair regrowth. The scalp serum restored the pH balance in my scalp and helped alleviate the dryness and itchiness brought on by psoriasis. The patches on my scalp eventually became smaller until the patches went away. I would still have scalp psoriasis flare ups at times and it’s only during these times that I would use steroid ointments and use it alternately with the serums. When my scalp is back to normal, I would then go back to just applying the serums regularly as per the prescribed frequency.

I use Holistic Hair’s Scalp Serum. I would apply the serum at night and wash it off the following day. It is so easy to remove! I wash my hair once with shampoo and conditioner and that’s it! No need for multiple washes. My scalp and hair would feel smooth and healthy.

Use Specialised Shampoo and Conditioner

Mainstream shampoo & conditioner, especially those with lots of fragrance can be very irritating to our scalp conditions. I started to use unscented shampoo & conditioner but it didn’t make much difference to my condition. I then started to use products with coal tar, however, the smell is just off-putting. I then started to look for products that are more targeted specifically for my scalp condition but also smells nice, if not unscented.

I now use Holistic Hair’s Pure Shampoo and Conditioner to manage my scalp condition. These smell so good and keep my scalp and hair healthy. With the climate here in New Zealand, I don’t wash my hair everyday as it can make my scalp really dry and itchy. I wash my hair three to four times a week with these products.

Note that using new products would take time for you to see results. I still use my prescribed steroid ointments but I only use them now if I have flare ups. Changing my scalp and hair care routine and the products that I use is a life-changer for me and I’m so happy I did it! Patience is truly a virtue! These products helped me manage my scalp with less time and effort. I also started to enjoy the process as the products feel and smell good. I felt beautiful! And that’s what matters.
